Hi, I'm Jody Rice, the founder of Satsuma Street! I started Satsuma when I was looking for some new, modern cross stitch patterns and couldn't find what I wanted in big-box craft stores. So I made my own! I started selling my designs as instant downloads on Etsy in 2013.

I was totally unprepared for the response I got from stitchers of all ages and from all over the world: they loved them! Satsuma Street quickly took off and has developed a huge following and many die-hard fans.

In 2016, I started making my designs available as printed charts for needlework stores and websites. Satsuma Street patterns can now be found in stores all over the globe, making my goal of "cross stitch for a happy world" closer every day!

I'm working on creating new designs all the time, and my full range of patterns can be seen in my Etsy shop. If you are a shop owner who would like to carry Satsuma Street charts, please contact me!

“Your patterns make people feel good.”

My path to becoming a cross stitch designer was a long and winding one. With degrees in Costume Design and Animation, my background in both the textile and graphic arts gives me a unique perspective on the art of cross stitch.

My past work includes pattern drafting, illustration and technical writing for sewing and craft books and magazines. I believe my attention to detail and technical knowledge bring an extra level of quality to Satsuma Street patterns that customers notice and appreciate.

Inspired by designers like Mary Blair, Charley Harper, and Alexander Girard, Satsuma Street designs combine color, shape and whimsy in a unique style that is instantly recognizable. I continually hear from customers who had never tried cross stitch until they found my patterns. I'm humbled and excited every day to be part of a new generation of stitchers who are discovering this beautiful craft.
